~Hello~
So normally I send you all posts about my travels and my adventures but I also want to update on just my normal life in Alicante. Honestly it's so fantastic here too. So here's a post on just random stuff that's happened while I've been home over the past few months, in no particular order, definitely not chronological.
Events:
I've gotten really into Hatha yoga which is like chill & includes meditations. My instructor is awesome and she gave me an incense stick and I cleansed my home like a real hippy.
I got strep, among like six other colds. I literally know the exact five year old who gave it to me too. she was so ill one day, then two days later I was so ill
I got a free tram pass because public transit rocks and then it got extended for the whole time I'm living here!! So cool!
I pulled my quad pretty badly at practice one day, but it was right before break so I was off from frisbee for a while anyway and am already healed!
Frisbee season changed to open/women which is fun because I get to know some of the really good women on my team better. But there's not enough of us to go to spanish championships in Galicia :( that's sad
It's been scary windy. Like don't walk under trees and watch out for window screens windy. Practice got cancelled once and might be again soon
I got a haircut and now look like I'm straight out of 1970
I made out with a girl in my program who we are all friends with and woke up to an abrupt "I'm straight, by the way" text...are you though...
I randomly submitted a piece of short fiction writing (a previously very secret hobby of mine) to a women's writing website and it made it to the final round of judging! No results yet but there's a small chance I win a lil money hehe
Hanna and I are got our matching tattoos finally!!! They are so cute!
Iforget if I ever mentioned getting three piercings in one go a while back but the nips have healed and hopefully the second nose ring is almost there!!
I got robbed during winter break-somebody snagged my purse at Pablo's laundromat while I put my stuff in the dryer. Hanna and I were "on our vigilante shit again" as Taylor would say so we tried to chase the guy down and Toni called the cops (like the intelligent woman she is) because she was afraid we'd get stabbed or something. This was also the day we left for morocco but luckily I came with an extra phone and my passport was home.
We subsequently got to ride in the backseat of a cop car!
I have not been training for the half marathon I'm running in mid February oops yikes. But then I went on one fantastic 7.5 miler which was awesome and it turns out I still love running.
I'm going to Andorra in the beginning of February to go snowboarding and maybe snowshoeing :)
My dad is visiting for his birthday!! He says we have to have more fun than when my mom was here for thanksgiving
Thanksgiving was great btw!! Pablo cooked an entirely vegan feast and my mom was here and we had so much fun. My mom is the best.
Hanna accidentally locked me INTO my apartment after the robbery because I had no keys and she locked it from the outside so I had to cancel my private lesson lol
Played pick up soccer with some other auxes which was fun!
Started going to language exchanges and made friendos
Watched all of Avatar (the old one, so I can go see the new one) in Spanish and totally understood!! So proud!
I went to the psychiatrist here to refill my prescription and the poor guy was way more stressed out than I am. Spanish medical centers are basically just the DVM but with doctors instead of cars. He had appointments every 5 min...
My stomach has been weird on and off lately. Hanna told me to go to the doctor. If I have celiac disease I'm gonna scream
Gabe and I are planning a trip to Amsterdam!! Imma try some truffles :)
Christmas was super fun. We had Christmas Eve with Rosie and we went into the Mediterranean for a polar plunge. More of a "slightly colder than pleasant" plunge but still
Then Pablo made us a fantastic dinner with stuffed vegan eggplantand it was so so yummy. Plus we got to meet Toni's parents!
Hanna made her Gluug, Swedish mulled wine, so tasty
We did presents together Hanna and I on Christmas morning then had brunch at Gemma, Sophia and Hanna's house. We had mimosas and latkas and yummy foods. Then we took naps and got high and watched movies
Hanna and I are in love with our hot budtender at the weed club. He drew hearts on our gram bags and said hi to us in the grocery store
Planning a trip to Granada next weekend! Exciting!!
Children:
I have one sixth grade class I literally hate they cat call me and are complete dicks. No respect whatsoever and no desire to learn. A lot of them are wonderful! But there's a clique of like six that genuinely scare me. And I know you shouldn't hate children but wow I do. I guess that makes me a real teacher finally?
I have a little Ukranian girl in second grade who wears sparkly skirts and bows is doing great with her Castellano & English and she has a tiny blonde pixie cut and I adore her. Today she said my hair looked pretty in Spanish and I felt so honored
There's another girl in the other class who's also a refugee and she loves superheroes and always is wearing Jurassic park stuff and has these little hearing aids that mess up her hair and she is always smiling and she warms my heart because I see her walking to school and we make a game of waving to eachother
The sixth graders desperately need deodorant post-break. They must've all hit puberty over xmas or something idek it's so smelly
The five year olds still love group hugs. They knocked me over today they hugged me so aggressively
I love my lead teachers. They are awesome.
I strongly dislike the one male teacher. He makes awkward jokes and makes my lead teachers uncomfy too.
Sunrise over the ocean on the tram ride to work is a huge plus. Gorgeous.
They had a disability rights march which was sweet but also no children listened to the speeches at all and it felt super rude
Christmas festival!!! Adorable!! The kids from every grade did a dance to a different song. Then they had a ton of yummy foods and everyone got to snack as much as they wanted.
Questions that remain about Spain:
Where are the queer people?
When do Spaniards sleep?
Why do they have so many separate stores for things? Why can't they have one big store with everything?
At what age do people stop partying? there's a forty five year old mom on my team who goes so hard
Related: why does everyone look so young and healthy?
Why do they shit talk American food when theirs is genuinely just meat on bread, tomato on bread, or rice?
Are they sexist? Racist? Or just...spanish?
Do they really think the Valencian language is useful? because it seems super pointless but it's everywhere
What the fuck is lunch? Is it almuerzo or comida?? And why do they have two lunches?
Are they religious or is it just vibes?

Okay I think that's all I've got for now. I miss you! Next post will be on Morocco. I'll try to get it done soon, but it'll probably be a long one. It was such a cool trippppp.
